Pro tip, life skill…no matter what you call it, knowing how to steep a cup of tea is essential. No need to buckle in, this is going to be a short blog post! That’s because tea is not complicated. A cup, an infuser and hot water. That’s all you need. Oh, and don’t forget the tea!
Step 1: Get Ready to Infuse
Load the tea into an infuser. You might have what you need at home. A piece of cheesecloth and string will get you there. But if you’re ready to move from DIY methods, grab a ForLife Cup Top Infuser. It’s our #1 choice for steeping hot tea.
Step 2: Add Tea
How much? When you purchase tea from us, your instructions are clearly laid out on the label. Here’s a quick guide:
Black Tea – 1 heaping teaspoon
Green Tea – 1 heaping Tablespoon
White Tea – 1 heaping Tablespoon
Herbal Tea – 1 heaping Tablespoon
Step 3: Add Water
Place your tea-filled infuser (that little DIY sachet or the ForLife Infuser) in your cup and add water. How hot? This hot:
Black Tea & Herbal Tea – these teas can handle full-boiling water
Green Tea & White Tea – back off the heat. Use water under the boil, around 175°F. Way less than a boil, even less than a simmer.
Step 4: Set Your Timer
Time & Temp are important for all teas…except herbals! For your Black, Green and White teas, follow the instructions on the label. For herbals, forgetaboutit! You can’t over steep them! Here’s a quick guide:
Black Teas – 1-3 mins
Green Teas – 2-4 mins
White Teas – 3-6 mins
Herbal Teas – 5+ mins
