Yaupon is a caffeinated plant that grows wild in the south. Before you head out to forage in the woods, know what youโ€™re looking for! Better yet, grab some from us. We lean on two women foragers from Austin, Texas who know their Yaupon. This delicious, wildcrafted โ€œteaโ€ (tisane, to be exact) is known as North American Mate because of its caffeine lift and re-steepability. Itโ€™s also rich and delicious, and itโ€™s become our summertime cold-brew refrigerator staple.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place 1/3 cup Yaupon in a infuser like our Capsule Infuser, and place in a 2 quart pitcher. You can also tie the tea into a cheesecloth pouch with string. Or simply add the loose tea to the pitcher, and strain off the tea later.
  • Fill the pitcher with water and place in the fridge. In 6-12 hours, you have cold brew Yaupon. Top off the pitcher three times to re-steep over 3 days, then discard the leaves.
