GRANDMA PIZZA

minutesGrandma pizza is a Sicilian-style pizza that’s often attributed to Long Island, New York. Grandma Pizza – or Square Pizza – is the home cook’s weeknight answer to pizzeria pizza. Crank up the heat in the oven and forget shaping dough. Grab a sheet pan, and there you have it: Grandma pizza!
We grabbed a store-bought can of refrigerated pizza dough and drizzled our Basil Extra Virgin Olive Oil under the crust for extra crispiness. We kept the toppings simple with sauce and cheese. But you do you. The more toppings the merrier. Grandma would approve!

Ingredients
Homemade or store-bought pizza dough
28 oz can San Marzano Tomatoes
1 Tbl Pizza Seasoning
2 cups mozzarella cheese
Your choice of toppings
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Puree the San Marzano tomatoes and Pizza Seasoning in a blender. Set aside 3/4 cup of sauce for the pizza. Refrigerate the additional sauce and use within 10 days. Or freeze for up to 6 months.
- Drizzle 3 Tbl Basil Extra Virgin Olive Oil onto a sheet pan and brush to distribute. If using canned dough from the refrigerator section of the grocery store, use a rolling pin to shape it into a larger rectangle to fit in the sheet pan. Otherwise, use your hands the stretch the dough to fit in the pan.
- Traditionally, cheese is placed under the sauce – we used this technique and you can see it pictured in the final pizza. Also, according to tradition, cheese, sauce and toppings extend all the way to the edge of the pizza making for those crispy bits of cooked cheese on the edges. Of course, you can sauce, cheese and top the pizza in any order, in any way you’d like.
- Bake the pizza for 20-25 mins or until the edges and bottom are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Cut into squares and serve!
