Yaupon is a caffeinated plant that grows wild in the south. Before you head out to forage in the woods, know what you’re looking for! Better yet, grab some from us. We lean on two women foragers from Austin, Texas who know their Yaupon. This delicious, wildcrafted “tea” (tisane, to be exact) is known as North American Mate because of its caffeine lift and re-steepability. It’s also rich and delicious, and it’s become our summertime cold-brew refrigerator staple.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place 1/3 cup Yaupon in a infuser like our Capsule Infuser, and place in a 2 quart pitcher. You can also tie the tea into a cheesecloth pouch with string. Or simply add the loose tea to the pitcher, and strain off the tea later.
  • Fill the pitcher with water and place in the fridge. In 6-12 hours, you have cold brew Yaupon. Top off the pitcher three times to re-steep over 3 days, then discard the leaves.
