minutesWhether it’s Empanadas or Natchitoches Meat Pies, we love flaky pastry wrapped hand pies. In this version, we use our Shepherd’s Pie filling to fill these tasty, handy pies. Store bought pie crusts work great, but you may want to try your hand (heh) at homemade Flaky Pie Crust. Either way, this recipe is a great way to celebrate and feed a crowd!
Ingredients
2 Store bought or homemade Pie Crusts
1 egg + Tbsp water, for an egg wash
Instructions
- Make the Shepherd’s Pie Filling and refrigerate. The pies are easier to make when the filling is cold.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Whisk together the egg and water. Set aside.
- Cut the pie crust dough into 4-inch rounds or 2X4 inch rectangles. Moisten your fingers with water and rub water around the edges of the pie crust dough pieces. Place 2 tsp filling in the center. Fold the dough over the filling and press to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Place the pies on two parchment-lined sheet pans. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
