Café de Olla is a Mexican coffee drink, traditionally brewed in a clay pot called an olla. For this iced take on tradition, we use warm Star Anise, Clove, Cinnamon Sticks, cocoa powder and a pop of Cayenne. Piloncillo sugar and orange peel lend sweetness and zip. We drench this rich, flavorful sip with condensed milk for a coffee that drinks like a dessert!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a pot, combine 3 cups water, piloncillo, Star Anise, Cloves, Cinnamon Sticks and cayenne. Heat to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until piloncillo dissolves.
  • Turn off heat. Add in the ground coffee and cocoa powder. Stir to combine. Allow to sit for 1 minute. Strain through cheescloth into a bowl or pitcher and pop in the fridge. Chill completely.
  • Divide the mixture between two tall, iced-filled glasses. Dollop in 1 tablespoon (or more) condensed milk and add a straw. Sip and enjoy!
