Yaupon is the only caffeinated plant native to North America. It has been harvested, dried and enjoyed as a envigorating beverage by many indigenous peoples for centuries.

YAUPON FAST FACTS

Type: Caffeinated Botanical (yaupon holly)
Place: Texas
Ingredients: Yaupon
Flavor Profile: Bright, vegetal, reminiscent of green tea
Caffeine: About 2/3 of a cup of coffee – but yaupon’s caffeine hits differently

Often referred to as North American Mate, Yaupon brews up a lovely, tan-colored elixir with zero tannins. That means it will be smooth with no bitterness and astringency. The caffeine delivery is smooth as well. This tea is a favorite of store owner Anne. She says, “Unlike an espresso, there is zero lift and crash with Yaupon. I drink it to power through work in the afternoon, and there are no jitters and I fall right to sleep that night.” Yaupon contains three stimulants: caffeine, theobromine and theophylline. Customers often report that Yaupon’s stimulating quality feels different than coffee or espresso.

We source Yaupon from women farmers in Texas. They wildcraft yaupon with true sustainability in mind. So much to feel good about!

HOW TO STEEP & ENJOY YAUPON TEA

Steep Time & Temp: Yaupon is not sensitive to water temp or steep time. Steep in water at the boil for 5-7 minutes.
Cold Steep? YES! Head here for our Cold Brew Yaupon.
Take a Sip: Mate drinkers, you’re going to love Yaupon! Yerba mate and Yaupon are related and are similar in flavor. Many customers drink Yaupon “straight up.” We do enjoy it with just a touch of honey.
