Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg…they’re all here, compliments of our Apple Pie Spice–the perfect accompaniment to this hearty, sweet applesauce. We love this delicious dish alongside our Easy Potato Latkes, but it’s just as delicious for topping pancakes or waffles.
4 baking apples (Macintosh, Cortland, Golden Delicious) cored and cut into 1 | |
4 eating apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, Pink Lady) cored and cut into 1 | |
Juice and zest of 1 lemon | |
1 Cinnamon Stick | |
1 tsp Apple Pie Spice | |
1/2 tsp Vanilla Bean Sea Salt | |
1/4 cup sugar | |
1/2 cup light brown sugar | |
1/2 cup apple cider | |
1 Tbl Pure Vanilla Extract |
1. | Bring all ingredients except for the tablespoons Pure Vanilla Extract to a boil in a 6-qt. saucepan over high heat. Reduce heat to low; cook, covered, until apples have begun to break down, 10-15 minutes. |
2. | Uncover and cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture has reduced by a third and the sauce is thick and amber-colored, about 1 hour. Stir in the tablespoon of Pure Vanilla Extract and serve warm, or cool completely and refrigerate. |
